Recent developments in technologies associated with ceramics produced biomaterials with high mechanical resistance and better aesthetics performance than Ti. However, its low bioactivity is problematic for its use in implants.
Ceramic implants have been thought of as a possible solution to solve the immunological and aesthetic problems. In the history of dental implants low resistance to fracture was always recurrent, which hindered the application of these implants in many situations.
With the development of zirconia stabilized with yttria (Y-TSZ) and reinforced alumina with zirconia (ZTA) one obtains a better mechanical strength, low susceptibility to fracture and greater chemical stability.
The aim of this project is to produce and compare the behavior in terms of tissue response of new surfaces for dental implants like Y-TSZ currently available and Ti.
